It is simple to pull the cable out of the jacket if you do as I said. series are performance engines to the max. The parts nor the labor is cheap!!!!! IF, you can still get the parts!!!ĭid you not read my post. Once you read it, you'll scrap your motor.!! I've repair'd about a zilion of these units. Give the parts guy a six pack of green beer and he'll print out a copy for you. The manual release valve must be closed to enable the trim/tilt unit to function. Yamaha never look'd back!!!!!! As to the bulletin, any BRP dealer will have it. Long story short, "touch-trim" lost the Alaska market for Johnson and Evinrude and basicly allow'd Yamaha to get a firm foothold into the working man's wallet. the cylinder assembly usually goes "flat", then the cable gets stretch'd, then the plastic items get worn/broke, etc. IF it's still got nitrogen, it's under extreme pressure.!!!!!!!! Perhaps only a cable and attaching items may be all that's needed. So watch as you attempt to removed the cable hardware.

IF the nitrogen isn't already gone, it will be once you undo that piece from the unit. It is possible to unthread the valve from the aluminum casting. If the unit were already tilted or after you access eveything after you pull the engine, be very carefull about removing the stainless threaded sleeve holding the cable to the unit hsg. It is difficult if not impossible to "grab" the cable end and pull/pry the the inner core wire so as to unlock the mechanism. If the unit is down, and the cable can not release the valving inside the cylinder, you will have to remove the engine, and then remove at least one clamp bracket so you can remove the cylinder after you access the upper tilt pin. There is no ez way to do what you need to be done.
